Course Description: ESL 50 is a one-unit class to help ESL students practice English by using computers and the Internet.
Course Objectives:

The goal of this class is for students to feel confident in using computers to improve their

English skills.  Of course, each student may be at a different level in computer knowledge

and/or in English, but everyone should see an improvement in their own abilities by the end

of the semester.

Textbook And Materials:

- Internet Activity Workbook by Dave Sperling

- one or two 3 1/2” High Density Diskettes with your name on them

- a notebook  tablet to take notes

Homework: You will have homework from each class meeting.  You can use the computers in the Language Lab or the Computer Lab to do your work.  You may also work at home if you have a computer and Internet service.  No late homework will be accepted. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to show me your homework immediately when you return so you don't lose points.  Always bring all your book, notes and papers to each class meeting.
Attendance:  This class meets only once a week and only 14 times, so you must be here every Thursday.  Also, it is rude to come late.  This class will always begin at 2:00, so I expect you to arrive before that time.
Working Together:

Every one of you has a different experience level in working with computers.  It is impossible

for me to help all of you 100% of the time, so please work together and help each other as

much as possible.   Also, you need to get other students' phone numbers so if you are

absent, you can hear what you missed.

Course Grades:

At the beginning of the semester, all of you will have 100 points -- you need 70 points (a "C" average) to pass.  You will lose points if you:

-are ABSENT ................................................ (minus 10 points each time)

-are TARDY 3 TIMES.................................. (minus 10 points each time)

-don't do your HOMEWORK ON TIME... (minus 10 points each time)

-don't do your MIDTERM correctly........... (minus 25 points)

-don't do your FINAL correctly.................. (minus 35 points)
